Queen portrait celebration at Tallygaroopna

author avatar
Historic: Robyn Slee with one of the Tallygaroopna portraits.

Robyn Slee was just a tot when she joined the crowd that welcomed the Queen on her visit to Shepparton in 1954.

She has always admired the serene portraits that decorate many little community halls around the country, and when she joined the Tallygaroopna hall committee, she noted the collection of portraits and set about reframing and protecting them.

Now, in the week of the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, the committee has organised a Queen Elizabeth memorabilia afternoon for Thursday, September 22 from 2.30pm.

Tallygaroopna has about 15 portraits and is hoping other hall committees might lend their portraits or any other memorabilia for the day. The oldest portrait is one dated about 1951, which shows the young princess riding a horse.

The public is being invited to bring along any keepsakes they have to share.

Tea and marmalade sandwiches (of course) will be available.

There is a $7 door charge.

Anyone who might have something to contribute can contact Robyn Slee on 0492 956 857.
