Stacey Groves is busily pulling together her version of a farmers’ market — only this time it is for equine owners new and old.
“I’d opened up my own business selling children’s riding apparel and I noticed there wasn’t much opportunity to trade in front of a targeted audience,” Mrs Groves said.
“This market is for everyone, from owners to coaches. I just wanted an all-round place for people to come.”
Bargains: When it comes to riding horses, you could bankrupt yourself buying all the gear. The inaugural Central Victorian Equine Market will bring local crafts-people, second-hand sellers and affordable brands to one spot, offering horse owners a chance to shop up a storm.

There is about 60 sites available at the market, some already filled by saddle fitter Saddle-Up, custom jump and gear-maker Blue Poppy Equines, and Mr Magoo’s, which is a Phoenix Feeds distributor.
Mrs Groves has focused on making the market accessible and enjoyable, with the average site costing a stallholder only $40.
“A bigger indoor site would go up to $150 but we’re also offering sites to second-hand gear guys for $25,” she said.
“I really encourage businesses to submit their applications through my website.”
Having received positive feedback, Mrs Groves plans to run the market on a quarterly basis.
The first ever Central Victorian Equine Market will be held on Saturday, March 26, at Lancefield Park, Lancefield, offering free entry to customers from 10am to 4pm.
