You don’t need fancy gear. Silicone ice cube trays, muffin trays or small plastic containers work well as a vessel, and dogs and cats can both enjoy an icy snack — although there is a chance fussy eaters will turn up their noses at the chilly sensation.
To make ‘pupsicles’ for your pooch, combine low-sodium stock or water with a couple of ingredients of your choice, like mince, tinned dog food, kibble, natural yoghurt, cooked mashed pumpkin or mashed banana.
Feline friends will prefer cat food or suitable tinned fish, such as sardines, mixed with water.
If you’re watching your pet’s weight, use more low-sodium stock or water than nutritionally dense ingredients for these snacks.
Stir to combine or, for best results, mix using a food processor or blender.
If your chosen vessel is a bit fiddly, pour the mixture into a zip-lock bag and make a small hole in the corner.
Direct the mixture into your chosen tray while squeezing the bag.
