President David Hernan said the job became a necessity after surface issues continued to plague the club last year.
“I reckon it was six years since they’ve been resurfaced,” Hernan said.
“What’s happened is we think moisture has got in underneath and it’s started to blister.
“We started fixing it up in 2019, just patching it up.
“But last year it got really bad.
“It was a job we had to do.”
The job, estimated around $27,000 was paid for in part by two grants, including a Benalla Rural City Council grant.
Hernan said the club would look to fundraise throughout the season to cover an outstanding shortfall of $7000.
With the main construction task now behind them, Hernan said the court was “looking fantastic” and would be a great addition to the grounds ahead of the 2021 season.
“The girls’ getting a new surface, they’re pretty happy about it,” Hernan said.
“They all say ‘that looks great’, so to get that positive feedback has been good.”
