Port's Marshall shuns free agency, signs new contract

"This club gave me my first crack at AFL and has supported me through some tough times both on and off the field," Marshall said on Wednesday.

"We're building something special and very few players want to leave our club because of the culture we've created. I never considered leaving."

Marshall, who grew up in Deniliquin in NSW, has played 97 AFL games for the Power since being recruited from the Murray Bushrangers with pick 16 at the 2016 national draft.

In October 2017, his mother died from cancer and in April the following year his father passed away.

The 198cm tall forward has become a mainstay in Port's attack in the past three seasons.

"We all know how important key forwards are, so to lock away Todd until the end of 2029 is very pleasing," Port's list manager Jason Cripps said.

"He has elite forward craft and his skills are excellent for a player of his size ... we think his best footy is still in front of him."
