The Blues dominated contested possession (+38) and inside-50s (+11) at Marvel Stadium on Saturday, but again let themselves down with inefficiency in the front half, slumping to a 17.8 (110) to 12.10 (82) loss.
It left Voss's side nursing a 4-7 record at their mid-season bye, having entered 2025 with high hopes of ending a 30-year premiership drought.
But Voss remains confident the Blues can compete for a top-eight spot after successive finals appearances in the past two years.
"Absolutely. For us, it's about impacting the season, and I think we've got enough there to suggest we can get after our second half of the season," the 49-year-old said.
"But we've also got some challenges that we need to be able to take care of.
"So drifting into September right now, as you can imagine, is probably the furthest thing from my mind.
"It's taking a break, having a rest, coming back together, putting the problem on the table, solving it collectively as a group, resetting ourselves and bringing new energy and getting after it."
GWS (6-5) are firmly in the finals hunt, despite injuries decimating their first-choice midfield.
Josh Kelly, Finn Callaghan, Stephen Coniglio and Jake Stringer were among the sidelined stars on Saturday as Greene stepped up to fill the void.
The Giants' captain and most dangerous forward reprised the midfield role he played more than a decade ago and starred with 28 disposals, six clearances and three goals to celebrate his 250-game milestone in style.
"He was reasonable. It's nice having that piece to be able to shift into the midfield when we've lost a few," GWS coach Adam Kingsley said.
"We know he's a great player ahead of the ball and we'd like to keep him there as much as we can.
"But some injuries suggested we needed to move him into the midfield - same as Lachie Whitfield - in this game, and both those boys had outstanding games."
Whitfield (27 disposals), Lachie Ash (38) and Tom Green (25) also got their hands dirty, and Kieren Briggs nullified Carlton star Tom De Koning in the ruck.
Briggs also produced a highlight when he outmuscled De Koning and volleyed a goal directly from a ruck contest at the top of the square.
Jesse Hogan (four), Callum Brown and Jake Riccardi (three each) were also among the goals.
There were eight lead changes in the first half, but GWS kept their noses in front after the main break, kicking the last three goals of the contest when Carlton closed within nine points in the final term.
Sam Docherty had 30 disposals and a goal on return for the Blues, who had few clear winners, with Sam Walsh (26 touches) and Patrick Cripps (25, one goal) also busy.
Charlie Curnow kicked two of his three goals in the first quarter, but the Giants' defenders largely kept the Blues' tall forwards out of the contest.
