World No.5 Ons Jabeur has won her championship rematch with Belinda Bencic at the Charleston Open 7-6 (8-6) 6-4 to collect her third career WTA title.
Jabeur, who last year lost to her Swiss rival in the final of the season's first clay-court event, turned things around while trailing 5-3 in the opening set, in a rally that included a between-the-legs return and the saving of two set points to win the tiebreak.
No.2 seed Jabeur broke Bencic's serve three times in the final set. When Bencic hit her final service return wide, the Tunisian raised her arms in triumph to celebrate her first victory in the United States.
"I wish every tournament is like this, (I) really (mean that) from the heart," Jabeur said in accepting the trophy.
"Really amazing tournament and I hope I can come back."
Bencic advanced to her second straight final about 30 minutes before it began, finishing off a straight-sets victory over top seed Jessica Pegula by winning the final five points of a tiebreaker.
But it was Jabeur who looked like the one who needed more rest early on. She lost her serve in the opening game of the final and struggled to figure out her opponent.
The balance tilted for good with her miraculous return, down 5-4 in the first, on a ball Bencic hit from the net right at her opponent.
Jabeur jumped and pulled off an instinctive between-the-legs return to get the ball back over the net.
In a see-sawing tiebreaker, Bencic held two set points and then threw her racket in frustration when the ball hit the line from a Jabeur return clipped hit the line.
The Tunisian hit the sideline again on set point, with the umpire ruling the effort in as Bencic pleaded her case to no avail.
Confidence restored, Jabeur surged to a 4-1 lead in the second set and held on for her first title since winning on grass in Berlin last June - when she also defeated Bencic.
The loss ended Bencic's 10-match winning streak on Charleston's green clay.
