Two days after City announced Rado Vidosic's sacking and appointed Vidmar until season's end, the former Socceroos captain led the reigning premiers to a 2-0 win over Sydney FC on Friday night.
City, who won with goals from Steven Ugarkovic and Jamie Maclaren, will return to action in their Asian Champions League clash with Buriram United on Wednesday, before hosting Macarthur on Sunday.
It means Vidmar will have minimal opportunity to embed anything new in his squad over the next week.
"The beauty we have is that we don't have to travel this week, which is great," Vidmar said.
"But my intention is to keep playing the way we were playing tonight and to improve on that.
"So whether it's Wednesday against Buriram in Champions League or the following week against Macarthur, it's going to be the same way.
"We can't deviate from doing that."
City had played with inverted full-backs under Vidosic but on Friday night, Aziz Behich and Callum Talbot largely stayed wide, while Steven Ugarkovic controlled proceedings in midfield.
Vidmar was happy with how his players responded to their tumultuous week against Sydney and indicated he wouldn't overly tweak his playing style.
"The game is pretty simple. Sometimes being a coach, you can complicate things," he said.
"So we made it really simple in everything that we were trying to do. It wasn't back to basics, but if you've got your basics right, and do those small things well then the rest will follow.
"So I'm still not happy with a bit of our passing but it's only one game and a couple of training sessions.
"So if I see that over the last couple of days and today, I know they're going to improve very quickly."
Vidmar wouldn't dwell on his relative lack of training time with his players.
"We've got to keep chipping away and it's hard to do when you've got the midweek games and then the following week we're going to be travelling," he said.
"The schedule is pretty tough. So hopefully we can get a couple of the boys back from injury as well to give us more numbers. So it'll still be tricky for sure.
"But right now, we should be pleased with what we did. We have to enjoy it as well.
"It's all about the players on a night like this so they should enjoy themselves and then get ready."
