Graham Arnold has rolled the dice for the Socceroos' crunch World Cup qualifier with Lebanon, pairing Kusini Yengi and Adam Taggart up front for the first time.

A win at CommBank Stadium in Sydney on Thursday night will all but guarantee Australia's passage to the final stage of qualification.

And Arnold has thrown a handful of curveballs as Australia look to break down a stubborn Lebanese defence on home soil.

Yengi, who has been on fire for club side Portsmouth, leads the line for just the second time in his international career alongside in-form Perth forward Taggart.

The Glory striker has 15 goals in the A-League Men this season, but hasn't featured for the Socceroos in 18 months.

Kye Rowles will shift to left back with Aziz Behich sidelined with injury, while Nathaniel Atkinson got the nod over Gethin Jones to play right back.

Australia have not lost to the Lebanese in their two previous meetings.

Sydney-born midfielder Jackson Khoury has been named on Lebanon's bench and could be in line to win his first cap for the Lebanese side, who are ranked 115th in the world.

Socceroos starting XI: Mat Ryan (captain); Nathaniel Atkinson, Harry Souttar, Cameron Burgess, Kye Rowles; Connor Metcalfe, Keanu Baccus, Jackson Irvine; Riley McGree; Kusini Yengi, Adam Taggart.
