Temperatures soared in Adelaide on Saturday with the mercury hitting 34 degrees at kick-off, making it tough for either side to produce their best.
But two teenagers stole the show, with Harry Crawford scoring a stunner for Adelaide moments before half time before Roar substitute Jacob Brazete equalised just as impressively midway through the second half.
Brisbane opened the better of the two sides and had the first glimpse of goal on seven minutes.
Louis Zabala collected the ball on the right and fired from just outside the area, striking the base of the upright.
Adelaide's best chance arrived on 20 minutes following the first of two drinks breaks.
Crawford and Zach Clough exchanged a one-two on the edge of the area before Crawford shot low and hard, but just wide of the far post.
As the half wore on, United gained the ascendancy and went close again on 37 minutes.
Clough looped a long free kick into the penalty area which Panagiotis Kikianis headed back across goal.
Brisbane failed to clear and Bart Vriends followed up, but his half volley was well saved by Roar keeper Matt Acton.
Three minutes into first half injury time the Reds broke the deadlock courtesy of a stunning strike from Crawford, who registered his first A-League goal in just his fourth appearance.
The 18-year-old fullback skipped past two defenders before cutting inside and bending a left-footed curler into the far top corner, leaving Acton no chance.
Both sides took their time to get going after the interval and it was the Roar who fired the first warning shot.
On 66 minutes, Brisbane pressed the Reds and fashioned a series of half attempts at goal, with the ball bobbling around as United failed to clear.
Eventually, substitute Brazete managed to fire a shot through the busy penalty area and force a save from Delianov.
Two minutes later, Brazete made good on his earlier threat, drawing Brisbane level with a superb strike.
The 18-year-old cut inside from the left and in almost an exact copy of Crawford's goal at the same end, whipped his shot into the top far corner.
Brazete was almost the hero deep into stoppage time, dancing his way past Vriends before again cutting inside and striking with his right, only to shoot past the upright.
