Victory extended their unbeaten run to 12 games with the draw but coach Tony Popovic will be left to rue a late switch off that allowed Reec to score an 89th-minute equaliser.
A win at Allianz Stadium on Saturday would have helped Victory move five points clear at the top but the Western Sydney Wanderers and Wellington Phoenix are now within touching distance.
Adding to Popovic's concerns were a suspected calf injury to influential midfielder Ryan Teague.
The Victory boss also had to substitute Daniel Arzani off with cramps after the six-cap Socceroos winger had scored his side's opener with a penalty.
Arzani, however, looked dangerous throughout, testing Danny Vukovic in the Mariners goal early on in one of his first forays forward.
The Mariners got most of their joy on the counter, but Alou Kuol was unable to give them an early advantage.
Kuol skied one close-range effort over the bar and fired another effort at Paul Izzo, who was able to repel him.
The breakthrough came when the Mariners played back towards Vukovic and a quick-thinking Chris Ikonomidis was able to chase after the ball and place doubt in the minds of Dan Hall and Brian Kaltak.
Hall raced across to stop Ikonomidis but took a good chunk out of the Victory man on the way, prompting referee Ben Abraham to point to the stop.
Arzani stepped up calmly and slotted the ball low and to Vukovic's right to score the second goal of his Victory stint and give his side the lead after 33 minutes.
Kuol flashed one header over the bar just before half-time and Victory were able to hold firm until the break.
Neither side threatened greatly in the early part of the second half, but after Teague's substitution things began to open up.
Winger Ben Folami went on one jinking run through the heart of the Mariners defence but Mark Jackson's men held firm and then hit Victory with a suckerpunch.
Max Balard floated a ball forward and Reec, who had come on just five minutes earlier, was able to latch onto it.
The Egyptian-born forward rounded Izzo and finished calmly to grab a point for the Mariners.
