Giampaolo sacked as Sampdoria manager

The Italian was named Sampdoria manager for the second time in January and led the team for 25 games. He also was in charge of the team from 2016 to 2019. He earlier had brief stints as manager of Torino and AC Milan.

In Sunday's other matches second-placed Atalanta drew back level on points with leaders Napoli after beating Fiorentina 1-0, Ademola Lookman scoring the only goal just before the hour. Third-placed Lazio defeated Spezia 4-0 with Ciro Immobile notching twice.

Ferrieri Caputi became the first woman to referee a Serie A game when she took charge of Sassuolo- Salernitana. A 5-0 home win lifted Sassulo to seventh. At the bottom end of the table Cremonese picked up their third point of the season with a draw at Lecce.
