The SCG has hosted Roosters home games since 1913, making it the oldest ground still used for NRL fixtures.
The Roosters played just four matches at the SCG between 1988 and 2018 after the Sydney Football Stadium opened at Moore Park, but relocated to their ancestral ground since 2019 during the SFS rebuild.
Saturday night's clash with the Wests Tigers will be the Roosters' final game at the SCG for the time being before the round-25 opening of Allianz Stadium.
"It's been a wonderful four years," Roosters coach Trent Robinson said.
"Since 1908, we've been playing in the different grounds in this area and the SCG has been a big part of that.
"We've been privileged to play there."
There appears to be nothing standing in the way between the Roosters and a return to the SCG at some point in the near future.
Allianz Stadium and the SCG are operated by the same organisation, and the NRL told AAP the league would place no restrictions on the Roosters returning.
Robinson suggested the historic stadium would be a fitting location for the traditional Anzac Day match against St George Illawarra.
The Roosters may also need to play at the SCG when Allianz Stadium is commandeered by the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup.
"When we're at Allianz, (the SCG) has been our second home," Robinson said.
"It won't be our last time forever on that ground but it will only be for special occasions."
Robinson's comments came on another day of uncertainty for Sydney's stadia.
Nine News reported on Thursday the NSW government is reconsidering grants after the NRL signalled its intent to take the grand final elsewhere next year.
Penrith's new $300 million stadium would likely be the most at risk, but the Panthers remain confident there will not be any change of plans.
They were also hopeful the new ground would still be built across the road from the current stadium, on the site of the Penrith Paceway, after sports minister Alister Henskens shied away from committing to that on Thursday.
NRL clubs Parramatta, St George Illawarra and Canterbury are also hopeful their centres of excellence will go ahead with funding allocated from the last state budget.
"We have had positive discussions with the office of sport in the past week," Parramatta CEO Jim Sarantinos told AAP.
"And we are working towards executing a funding agreement.
"There is nothing we have heard or been told to suggest we should have any concerns."
