Raiders coach Stuart pens new deal until end of 2029

Including the club's run to the 2019 grand final, the 57-year-old has taken Canberra to the finals in four of the last five seasons while subtly shaking up the club's roster.

His extension comes at a crucial time for Canberra, who have begun to plan for life without club greats Jordan Rapana, Elliott Whitehead and Josh Papalii as they all approach the back end of their NRL careers.

"The Raiders are in the process of moving through a significant transition, with one of the youngest playing squads in the NRL and we see Ricky as a central part of that transition," chairman Dennis Richardson said.

"His values and character have been an important ingredient in the attraction of the young talent we've been able to bring to the club in recent times.

"His re-signing until the end of the decade provides continuity and certainty for a playing group which we believe has the potential to deliver the ultimate prize in the coming years."

Stuart is the most-capped coach in Green Machine history and won three premierships with the Raiders as a player.

His side face Canterbury in the opening game of Magic Round on Friday.
