SNAPSHOT OF ROUND TWO OF THE NRL SEASON
PLAYER OF THE ROUND: Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow. The Dolphins fullback scored his first NRL hat-trick and saved a try with determination and speed in the 38-0 win over St George Illawarra. The man known as 'Hammer' was poor the previous week against North Queensland but returned to his best.
QUOTE OF THE ROUND: "He didn't just do that tonight because that's what needed doing. He practices that," Coach Craig Bellamy on the wondrous match winning try by Xavier Coates in Melbourne's 30-26 win over the Warriors.
TALKING POINT: Has the NRL gone overboard by hitting Melbourne's Jahrome Hughes with a grade-two contrary conduct charge for contact on referee Chris Butler? Hughes faces a two-match ban for pushing Butler to the ground as he tried to set himself up for a try-saving tackle against the Warriors, but the NRL deemed it serious enough to warrant up to a two-match ban.
MAGIC MOMENT: Coates's miracle last-minute try to hand the Storm victory over the Warriors. His leaping effort from 6.5 metres out to get over Dallin Waetene-Zelezniak and seal the 30-26 victory made for one of the finest put-downs of all time.
STAT THAT MATTERS: The Dolphins' 38-0 thrashing of St George Illawarra was the first shut-out in the club's history.
CASUALTY WARD: Broncos - Adam Reynolds (knee); Bulldogs - Poasa Faamausilli (concussion); Eels - Bailey Simonsson (concussion), Kelma Tuilagi (shoulder; Panthers - James Fisher-Harris (shoulder); Wests Tigers - Starford To'a (ankle); Cowboys - Heilum Luki (ankle); Sea Eagles - Tommy Talau (ankle); Roosters - Luke Keary (head knock). Dolphins - Max Plath (knee), Kodi Nikorima (concussion)
JUDICIARY WATCH: Sharks - Briton Nikora (high tackle); Storm - Jahrome Hughes (contrary conduct); Roosters - Sitili Tupouniua (crusher). Dragons - Francis Molo (dangerous contact)
UNDER PRESSURE: South Sydney. Their 0-2 start to the season should be ringing alarm bells at Redfern. The Rabbitohs were full of errors against Brisbane on Thursday night and have now won only four games since last June.
