Campbell Kellaway has posted a maiden first-class half-century to help push Victoria's lead over NSW towards 200 in their Sheffield Shield clash.

The 20-year-old has top-scored with 72 not out in the Vics' second innings, whacking 11 boundaries to steer the hosts to 7-241 at tea on day three at Junction Oval.

Fellow second-gamer Sam Elliott (12 not out) is also unbeaten at the crease.

The pair have put on 52 for the eighth wicket on Saturday afternoon, with the overall lead growing to 190.

Chris Tremain (2-36) and Chris Green (2-27) have been the pick of the NSW bowlers.

Tremain struck twice in a double-wicket maiden before lunch, removing Matt Short (one) and Will Sutherland (duck).

He cashed in on the damage done by Green in the previous over as Victoria lost 3-1.

Green trapped Nic Maddinson lbw after the left-hander smashed a quickfire 40 off 39 balls, including five boundaries and two sixes.

Victoria began day three at 1-78 but lost five wickets in the opening session, staggering to 6-151 by lunch before the Kellaway-led fightback.

The Vics also had Sam Harper and Jon Holland substituted out of the match on day two after they both tested positive for COVID-19.

Henriques (97) steered NSW to a first-innings lead of 51 on day two but fell short of a century when he was trapped lbw by Todd Murphy.

It is the first game for the last-placed Blues under caretaker coach Greg Shipperd, after Phil Jaques was axed earlier in the week.

Both sides are still searching for their first win of the Shield season.
