The Sydney Thunder will bowl first against the Brisbane Heat in their  opening BBL match of the season after winning the toss at Manuka Oval.

Looking for a positive start to the campaign after finishing fourth last season and bombing out in their first final, Thunder fans will have to wait a little longer to get their first look at recruit Cameron Bancroft when he opens the batting.

Bancroft switched from defending champions the Perth Scorchers in the off-season, with Pakistan quick Zaman Khan set to make his BBL debut.

They'll battle the Heat, who lose star talents Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne from the side that pummelled the Melbourne Stars by 103 runs in the season's opening fixture due to Test duty.

The Heat were also scheduled to face the Strikers on Saturday night and that game was rained out.

In the Test stars' absence, the Heat have slotted in Nathan McSweeney and Matt Renshaw, who were both in the runs for the Prime Minister's XI at the same ground last week.

TEAMS:

Sydney Thunder: Cameron Bancroft, Alex Hales, Matt Gilkes, Ollie Davies, Alex Ross, Daniel Sams, Nathan McAndrew, Chris Green, Liam Hatcher, Zaman Khan, Tanveer Sangha.

Brisbane Heat: Colin Munro, Josh Brown, Nathan McSweeney, Matt Renshaw, Sam Billings, Paul Walter, Michael Neser, Xavier Bartlett, Spencer Johnson, Matt Kuhnemann, Mitch Swepson.
