In reply, the Stars had a shocking start with Lauren Winfield-Hill (0) falling victim in the opening over to Ellyse Perry.
Allrounders Ecclestone (1-19 off four) and Bolton (1-17 off four) kept it tight with their spinners.
Suzie Bates had a great day in the field for the Sixers, taking four catches.
Garth (18) also top-scored with the bat for the Stars but no-one got going.
The Stars are now six points outside of the top four and all but out of finals contention.
