The Heat were 1-107 at the Gabba on Wednesday thanks to a classy Nathan McSweeney (73 off 52) and Josh Brown (39 off 29) partnership.
Cameos from Matt Renshaw and Sam Billings moved them to 4-156 before the rot set in with Sams' incredible over sparking a collapse of 6-16.

He had McSweeney caught at cover before fooling Xavier Bartlett, Spencer Johnson and Mitchell Swepson with slower balls.
The allrounder finished with 5-30 and was unlucky not to jag a hat-trick with Swepson's mistimed slog falling just short of the bowler's feet.
Heat skipper and New Zealand import Colin Munro, who made an unbeaten 99 in the Heat's season opener, lasted just one delivery on Wednesday, picking out deep square leg in the first over.
Brown and McSweeney steadied though, the pair taking few risks as they hit gaps and then found the boundary when bowlers erred.
Brown belted a flat boundary through cover to finish the 10th over at 1-90.
McSweeney kept humming but Brown was undone by a Sams full-toss while Renshaw (17 off nine) made an unselfish effort to lift the rate.
He launched a straight six into the top tier off Tanveer Sangha then reverse swept him for four in the same over.
He fell soon after trying to deposit another maximum before Billings (23 off 13) did his bit, Chris Green (1-29) forcing the error as he attempted to stem the tide.
Sams' change of pace then made the hosts look foolish with the Heat now needing to bowl well to remain unbeaten and on top of the ladder.
