The Heat (3-7) must win all four of their remaining games to qualify for the finals, while the Stars (3-8) are out of contention.
Test stars Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne are in action again for the unchanged Heat on Monday night, having featured in the last-start win over the Adelaide Strikers.
Khawaja was out for just two, while Labuschagne top-scored with 46 from 33 balls.
Frontline bowler Nathan Coulter-Nile returns for the Stars, after he was rested from Saturday's derby defeat to the Melbourne Renegades.
But high-profile allrounder Marcus Stoinis will miss a fourth consecutive match with a hamstring injury.
Stoinis was named in the extended squad but was not included in the final team.
The Stars will be looking for a better return from their batting line-up, which has faltered too often this season.
English import Joe Clarke found form in the derby, hitting 59 from 37 balls, while fellow opener Tom Rogers scored an unbeaten half-century in his last appearance at the MCG.
But those sorts of performances have been few and far between for the Stars during a disappointing campaign.
