Alyssa Healy has won the toss in her first appearance as Australia's permanent captain and elected to bat in the women's Test against India at Wankhede Stadium.

The one-off Test in Mumbai starting Wednesday is the first between the countries on Indian soil since 1984 when a four-match series was drawn nil-all.

Healy was announced earlier this month as Australia's new fulltime captain following the retirement of Meg Lanning.

Filling in for Lanning then, Healy led Australia in their most recent Test outing - an 89-run win over England at Trent Bridge in this year's Ashes.

The Aussies have made one change from that team with left-arm seamer Lauren Cheatle to make her debut, picked ahead of speedster Darcie Brown.

They will encounter an in-form, red-hot India, fresh off a historic thumping of England last week.

Spinner Deepti Sharma finished with match figures of 9-39 to lead India to a 347-run victory, the largest ever runs victory in women's Test history.

Big-hitting Richa Ghosh will make her Test debut replacing Shubha Satheesh, who fractured and dislocated her left ring finger during the England Test.

Teams:

Australia: Alyssa Healy (capt), Beth Mooney, Phoebe Litchfield, Ellyse Perry, Tahlia McGrath, Annabel Sutherland, Ash Gardner, Jess Jonassen, Alana King, Kim Garth, Lauren Cheatle.

India: Harmanpreet Kaur (capt), Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues,Yastika Bhatia, Richa Ghosh, Deepti Sharma, Sneh Rana, Pooja Vastrakar, Rajeshari Gayakwad, Renuka Singh.
