Hayden has been mentoring Pakistan, who have a chance to become the first ever men's T20 World Cup winners to finish the tournament undefeated, in the UAE.
The former opener admits the semi-final between his charges and the country he represented on 273 occasions would be a "challenge of the heart ... (and) the mind".
But Hayden, who opened alongside Australia coach Justin Langer in 113 Test innings, also detailed his pride in being part of Pakistan's campaign as they prepared to train for the final time before facing Australia at 1am AEDT on Friday.
And the 50-year-old, unprompted, highlighted the role Jones played in fostering Pakistan's "wonderful potential".
Jones, whose shock death last year at age 59 rocked Australian cricket, coached Islamabad United then Karachi Kings during the first five editions of the Pakistan Super League.
"I want to make special mention here of a former teammate and colleague," Hayden said.
"Dean Jones ... gave a lot of himself to Cricket Australia but also gave a lot of himself to Pakistan Cricket.
"His closing words to me, I can hear in my ears, were 'these are my boys, this is something I'm so passionate about'.
"He was just beautifully connected to Pakistan Cricket. May he rest in peace now, knowing that fact that he's left a legacy within this team which will last not only this generation but generations to come.
"If I can add any value to those closing comments from Deano, that would be my greatest honour."
The broad-shouldered Queensland icon welcomed the announcement Australia were slated to play three Tests and four limited-overs games in Pakistan in March, marking their first tour since 1998.
"It's incredibly important that the country now embraces Pakistan ... (and) supports its incredible fan base," he said.
"Be a part of the future of Pakistan cricket.
"I'm sure that they (players) are looking forward to travelling to Pakistan.
"It's certainly the one regret that I have in my career, not being able to travel to Pakistan as an international cricketer."
Hayden, a Christian, referenced Islam and "how spirituality has played its role within the Pakistan team as a great guide and tool for everyone to come together".
However, Hayden downplayed the influence he and close friend Langer would have on the result.
"A national coach or a batting coach never wins a game of cricket. The XI that take part in the game win the game," he said.
"I'm looking forward to seeing how this group of young men take forward the challenge."
