A parliamentary committee will grill ABC executives at a hearing on Tuesday about the broadcaster's proposal to base more than 300 staff in western Sydney from 2024.
The move is part of a broader plan by the ABC to move 75 per cent of its employees away from inner-city workplaces.
The 300 staff being moved to Parramatta will include journalists and those in content production.
In its submission to the inquiry, the ABC said there would be no additional cost to taxpayers for the move to the new Parramatta site.
Costs are expected to be met by sub-leasing seven floors of the ABC's facilities in the Sydney CBD.
"Operating production spaces from the heart of Parramatta while retaining facilities in Ultimo, will allow the ABC to make the most of opportunities to deliver services across Sydney," the submission said.
"The project is the latest step in the ABC's journey to modernising its property portfolio to support its broadcasting needs into the future."
About 1700 ABC staff are expected to still be based at the Sydney CBD facilities following the move.
Parliamentary approval will still be needed for the fit out of the new facility in Parramatta.
Providing approval is granted, fit out works at Parramatta are slated to begin in early 2023, with the office being operational by 2024.
The broadcaster first unveiled the proposal to move staff to western Sydney as part of a five-year plan announced in 2020.
The public broadcaster recently had its funding cycle increased from three years to five years in the federal budget, as part of plans to provide more long-term arrangements.
