"It blew my mind when they read it out because there was some pretty big expensive shows that we're up against," she told AAP.
The US series, which follows young people on the autism spectrum as they navigate dating and relationships, was made by the same team that produced the original two seasons of Love on the Spectrum in Australia.
The show won awards for outstanding unstructured reality program, outstanding picture editing for unstructured reality program and outstanding casting for a reality program.
Northern Pictures had a team of nine that travelled to Los Angeles for the awards night, which made for cries of ""Aussie! Aussie! Aussie!" on the red carpet, Holden said.
"I was accepting my award with Ron Howard sitting in the rows looking up at me while I was on stage, and Peter Jackson, and I was just like, 'This is crazy!'," she said.
Of course, the wins were followed by the Governor's Ball and then the Hotel Roosevelt, in a celebration that continued until early Sunday morning.
The Emmy wins were unexpected especially because Love on the Spectrum is very different to the usual Hollywood fare, Holden said.
"Hollywood is so much about glamour in celebrity so it's ironic, because we really wanted to ground this in something that was really, really truthful."
The US and Australian versions of the show, both airing on Netflix, have made it to the top 10 programs in the US, UK, Scandinavia and South Korea.
