The charges include two counts of breaching an Apprehended Violence Order (AVO), in both Narrandera and Finley.
In Finley he was also charged with disqualified driving, three counts of assault, three counts of malicious damage and drink driving.
Police said the AVO was issued in 2018 following an alleged assault. It prohibited contact with his alleged female victim within 12 hours of consuming alcohol.
Police allege the man was seen consuming alcohol in the company of the woman at Narrandera before driving toward Finley on Sunday afternoon. An argument between the pair is believed to have erupted due to his manner of driving, and escalated when they arrived at a rural property in Finley.
The man is alleged to have threatened to run the woman over with the car. He then allegedly slapped her across the face and punched her in the stomach.
The man is then alleged to have assaulted two of the woman’s family members when they tried to come to her aid.
In an attempt to leave the property before police got there, the man is alleged to have rammed a car with his own causing damage. A fence was also damaged in the ordeal.
Police said the man’s car was found broken down nearby, possibly as a result of the damage caused during his escape.
He reportedly refused a roadside blood alcohol test, but was arrested and forced to supply a breath analysis at Finley Police Station. Police allege he had a blood alcohol reading of 0.187.
Subsequent checks revealed the man’s licence had been suspended in August last year, until September 2021.
The man was refused bail Sunday and appeared in Albury court on Monday, and is due to appear before the courts against on a date to be set.
