The Wombats sit atop of the Kyabram District League ladder after a faultless start to their 2021 campaign.
Corey Carver's charges have enjoyed wins over top-six outfits, Dookie United, Merrigum and fellow challenger Girgarre in the opening six rounds.
However, the talented Wombats outfit will meet its biggest tests in the fortnight — beginning Saturday at Lancaster Recreation Reserve.
The Wombats play host to powerhouse Nagambie in what is a mouth-watering top-four encounter.
Speaking after last weekend's win over Stanhope, Carver understood the challenge that awaited his troops.
“All three sides (Merrigum, Dookie, Girgarre) will be thereabout and fighting for finals, so we are really pleased to have got the points in those games,” Carver said.
“But we know we have got a big couple of weeks ahead of us.
“We will find out where we sit after these two games against Nagambie and Avenel. We have been ticking over pretty well so far, but there's always room for improvement.”
Leading the charge for the Wombats this year has been recruit Charlie McLay, youngster Darcy Keck and consistent performers Billy Ryan and Zac Cerrone.
Nagambie enters this weekend off the back of a huge win over Tallygaroopna.
Daniel Haysom booted eight majors, while Ben Hutton and Nic Waterson starred in the 159-point drubbing.
“Nagambie have been one of the best teams in the comp for a long time now,” Carver said.
“It will be game on from the very start. They use the ball so well and their defence is so hard to score against.
“We need to make sure that we are clean with the ball and don't cough it up.”
Girgarre will look to clinch back-to-back wins on Saturday.
The Kangaroos will host Rushworth on their home deck fresh off a comfortable win over Longwood.
The Kangaroos recently welcomed former AFL star Brett Deledio, however, the talented utility is not expected to front up this weekend.
The Tigers got the job done over Ardmona, with Dan Harris leading his junior side to victory.
Dookie United gets another test, this time in the form of Violet Town.
The Thunder enjoyed a 20-point win over Merrigum last time around and sit fourth on the ladder.
Avenel will look to extend its unbeaten start when Kasey Duncan's men head to Tallygaroopna.
Murchison-Toolamba returns from a week off with a match against Undera and Merrigum hosts Longwood.
Stanhope will fancy getting back on the winners’ list with an away match against Ardmona.
