A two-day event taking place on September 24 and 25, the Pine Lodge-based facility will be a hive of activity, as the region gets the privileged opportunity to host the nation’s best shooters as they battle it out for championship glory.
A wonderful opportunity for all those involved with SSAA Shepparton, secretary Tony Connell said the entire community could not wait to play host to the event.
“It is a massive opportunity for us to promote our grounds and the area as a whole,” Connell said.
“We have a made a lot of big improvements to our facility over recent years thanks to grants from the Greater Shepparton council, so this is our first big chance to showcase the changes we have made.
“Everybody at the club cannot wait to welcome shooters from around the country and host a top quality event.”
In terms of how the championships operates, each state puts in a team and will undergo a number of different events, accumulating points along the way to decide the national title.
Victoria has had a lot of recent success at the event, winning the past four years, setting up an opportunity to complete a five-peat.
Connell explained how much preparation had gone into getting the event up and running and what people could expect from the weekend.
“A lot of planning and hard work has gone into getting ready for this event,” he said.
“We’ve got Peter Hall setting the targets, which is exciting, and all hands are on deck to make sure our grounds are in tip-top shape.
“We are hoping to welcome around 150 people to the club over the two days, so it will be all hands on deck and hopefully everything runs as smoothly as possible.
“Anyone is welcome to come out and have a look and they can expect to see some top quality shooting.”
The 2022 SSAA national five-stand championships will occur at the SSAA Shepparton branch at Pine Lodge from Saturday, September 24, to Sunday, September 25.
