The 33-year-old prop, who will next year join the Dolphins along with brother Kenny, will lead the Storm against Canberra on Saturday night in a sudden-death semi-final in his 295th NRL game for the club.
Not bad for a guy who turned up out of the blue in 2009 at Melbourne unannounced.
"Jesse's had a remarkable career at the Storm considering how he got here basically on his own accord," Storm football general manager Frank Ponissi told AAP.
"He wasn't recruited by the club. His brother Kenny was in the under 20s squad in 2009 and he asked the coach at the time, who was Brad Arthur, if Jesse could come and trial."
Bromwich won an under 20s title that year, and also earned himself an NRL contract.
"Here we are nearly 300 games in the front-row later, three premierships, a lot of minor premierships and he is about to play his 28th final. It is quite astonishing," Ponissi said.
"Regardless of the result on Saturday it is going to be sad to see Jesse, and his brother Ken, walk off the field because they have contributed so much at AAMI Park."
When co-captain and fellow prop Christian Welch ruptured his achilles in round one, Bromwich was left as sole skipper.
"Jesse would be the first to admit that he is a reluctant captain, but he also understands that we needed him to be captain for the sake of the team," Ponissi said.
"He has been a real valuable player for us on the field but off the field he has a real presence in the dressing room."
When asked about where Bromwich sits in the scheme of Storm greats, Ponissi turned to what he called "a quite remarkable" achievement.
"The best way to answer that is that in 2014, 2015 and 2016 he won three consecutive Melbourne Storm player of the year awards – as voted by the coaches and his peers - when Billy Slater, Cooper Cronk and Cameron Smith were at their peak," he said.
Welch recalled playing his fifth NRL game against the Dragons when he rashly put a shoulder into forward Leeson Ah Mau and riled him up.
"I was a young, small and thin front-rower and Leeson was angry and giving me an absolute spray when Jesse stepped forward beside me and put his Kiwi teammate in his place," Welch told AAP.
"It was like Jesse saw his job as being there to protect me. He's someone you trust to always have your back."
Welch said he rated Bromwich as "one of the greatest front-rowers of the modern era" alongside Sydney Roosters prop Jared Waerea-Hargreaves.
