Echuca moves to top of GVL netball ladder with big win over winless Kyabram

A 23-7 final quarter finished off a dominant performance by Echuca's A-grade netball side during the Goulburn Valley League's Indigenous Round.

The Murray Bombers were a class above winless Kyabram, taking the victory 66-27.

The win catapulted the Murray Bombers into top spot after Shepparton United had the bye.

Echuca won every quarter adding 17-9 in the first, 13-2 in the second and 13-9 in the third before finishing the last with another burst.

The win was set up by the work of Sheridan Townrow, Belinda Lees and Holly Butler.

Hollie Reid, Michaela Herbert and Carly Whitfield were the Bombers’ best.

Murray Bombers coach Steph Vick said it was pleasing to see work being done at training paying off on game day.

“It was nice to see a few of the things we've been working on at training come together really well,” Vick said.

“We'll just keep building on those concepts and get stronger and stronger.

“As the game went on, we had different goals we were aiming to achieve.

“In the last quarter, even though we were out in front by quite a bit, it was one of our aims not to take the foot off the pedal and keep pushing, and they went out there and played fantastic.”

Vick praised the milestone woman Ash Mangan, who brought up her 250th game.

“She's such a terrific person on and off the court,” Vick said.

“She's playing really well, and gives 100 per cent on court and it was no different (on Saturday) in those conditions.

“It was great to celebrate it at Kyabram, she's played a lot of her games there.”

With a bye this weekend, Vick said plenty of players were looking forward to the break.

“Every week we come away from a game with things we need to work and build on,” she said.

“We've got some tough games coming up, so it will be nice to come back well rested.”

Kyabram also has a bye this weekend, with the Goulburn Valley League currently in the middle of a split round.
