The training will empower adults to recognise and respond effectively to young individuals experiencing mental health problems or crises until professional help is available.
Upon completion, participants become mental health first aiders, equipped with the knowledge, confidence and skills to provide essential support when it matters most.
The training will be conducted over four sessions on the following dates:
- From 5pm to 9.30pm, Monday, April 22;
- From 5pm to 9.30pm, Monday, April 29;
- From 5pm to 9.30pm, Monday, May 6; and
- From 5pm - 9.30pm, Monday, May 1
The training will take place at Benalla Community Care, 4 Coster St, Benalla.
Participants will need to attend all four sessions to gain their accreditation.
Mayor Danny Claridge emphasised the importance of proactive measures to address mental health issues in the community.
“Mental health is a recognised problem in Benalla, and it’s imperative that we take action to better educate and support our community, particularly our youth," Cr Claridge said.
“I encourage everyone in our community to participate in this training.
“By doing so, we strengthen our ability to support and care for our young people, ensuring their wellbeing and resilience.”
Thanks to Live4Life Benalla, the course is being offered at a subsidised rate of $20, making it accessible for all interested individuals.
