St Anne’s College FIRE Carriers take on new role

Catholic Education Sandhurst Aboriginal education officer Michael Chisholm said the program had been running for 13 years.

“The kids learn about Aboriginal culture, about the local Aboriginal community and then they’re invited to become FIRE Carriers,” Mr Chisholm said.

“They receive a badge and with that they have a few responsibilities; to learn more about their local Indigenous community, engage in that through their education and it’s also about culturally recognising our First Nations people.”

The program runs in all Sandhurst Catholic schools.

Friday’s ceremony saw 17 Year 7 students and about a dozen staff members commissioned.
