While the top five teams on the ladder all secured victories, the battle for the final place in the post-season heated up and the order in which the top eight will form is still anything but confirmed.
The most entertaining game of round 15 saw Katamatite battle the Deni Rovers, with the Tigers coming away with a 12.4 (76) to 9.10 (64) victory.
A fascinating game at Katamatite Recreation Reserve, the contest was neck-and-neck in the first half, with the home side two points up at the main break.
In the third quarter the visitors kicked 24 points clear however a massive last term to the Tigers saw them come back and claim the victory.
Katamatite coach Jedd Wright gave credit to Deni, explaining the Rovers did not allow the home side to play their way in the first three terms.
“We were obviously really disappointed with the performance we were putting in but we were lucky enough to make it click in the last quarter and just scrape over the line,” Wright said.
He said that much like the game against Katandra last week, the Tigers started slow, with this something that needed to be addressed as finals draw closer.
“All these wins are really important, it just gives us an opportunity to try and finish in that top four,” he said.
Sam Wright was a class above for the Tigers on the day, kicking nine goals, while Pat Riordan and Thomas Buzza also performed well.
“When he (Sam) got one-on-one he was pretty unstoppable, it would’ve been a different game if we didn’t have him up there,” Wright said.
“It was Pat Riordan’s 150th game as well so when the game was there to be won he really stood up and dominated through the middle and it was good to get a win for his milestone game.
“Tommy Buzza down back was just a rock, he probably had at least a dozen marks across half-back I’d say, so it was two really good games from those two.”
For Deni, coach Alex Hay put in a great shift, as did James Gilligan and Raymond Murphy, however the side could not hold on for the win.
In other round 15 action, Tungamah’s Ash Saunders moved to the top of the leading goal-kickers’ table with a 12-goal haul.
The bag of goals was the highlight of a dominant day out for the Bears against Rennie, with Tungamah running out 132-point winners.
Elsewhere, Jerilderie improved its chances of a finals berth by downing Berrigan, Strathmerton were too strong for Mathoura, Waaia cruised to victory against Tocumwal and Katandra defeated Picola United.
Katunga and Blighty had the week off.
