Kicking goals: One of Finley's favourite sons, and gun Geelong Football Club player, Tom Hawkins, with the new sign in his honour at the entrance to Finley.
For years people travelling through Finley have been welcomed to the ‘Home of Shane Crawford’ the 300-game Hawthorn champion and Brownlow Medallist.
Now Tom Hawkins, another favourite son, has made it a double act, and Finley is stamped as the home of the 2020 Coleman Medal winner.

Tom is a Geelong champ, but his Coleman was won with just 49 goals, the lowest total on record. Still, he kicked more than anyone else, so it counts.
You have to go all the way back to Buddy Franklin in 2008 to find the last medal winner to boot more than 100.
So who would get a gong?
Surely with a premiership medal to his name, Steele Sidebottom should welcome everyone to Congupna.
Echuca is home to Brownlow Medallist Ollie Wines, so Oddie thinks Clayton Oliver should have his name in lights on the approach to Mooroopna.
Is a Doig Medal (Freo’s best and fairest award) enough to get David Mundy a gig on the outskirts of Seymour?
And what does Kyabram do? Are Garry Lyon’s two B&F trophies at Melbourne enough? Or is that trumped by Brett Deledio’s back-to-back Jack Dyer Medals?
Any other suggestions?
What’s that smell?
Watters Electrical do great work and Oddie is in the habit of standing around watching tradespeople do their thing.
As one of the least handy people on the planet, Oddie is endlessly amazed by the skill.
But next time I need a sparky, I won’t stand too close.
The Watters staff have just finished turning 80kg of meat into salami, which will be in every sparky’s lunch box within a few weeks.
