Ms Broad takes the helm from Diana Taylor, who has been a member of the GOTAFE board since July 2019 and chair since August 2019.
Deputy chair Angela Verde also stepped down after six years of service.
Ms Broad served for 15 years in the Victorian Parliament as the Labor member for Melbourne North Province until 2006, and then as a Member for the Northern Victoria.
She served as Minister for Energy and Resources, Ports, Local Government and Housing in the Bracks Government.
“I am looking forward to being a strong ambassador and champion for GOTAFE and vocational education across regional Victoria,” Ms Broad said.
“As we continue to implement our education and strategic plans, we must continue to place our students at the centre of everything we do.”
Ms Broad paid tribute to her predecessors for building a thriving, sustainable organisation with robust operations and financial sustainability.
In early June, the institute was advised by the Australian Skills Quality Authority that GOTAFE’s registration had been confirmed for a further seven years.
Women’s Health Goulburn North-East chief executive Amanda Kelly and Victorian Multicultural Commission deputy chairperson Bwe Thay have also been appointed to the GOTAFE board.
