What a catch: Max is all smiles after landing a monster trout at Victoria Park Lake.
When Max McNally, 12, cast his line into Victoria Park Lake in the heart of Shepparton he was hoping for a fish.
He got one, an absolute cracker of a rainbow trout measuring 60cm.

The Victorian Fisheries Authority released 500 rainbow trout into the lake in June 2017, so Max’s fish has spent quite a few years avoiding being caught.
It just goes to show that the fish are happy and healthy and enjoying the lake as much as everyone else.
Not feeling the need for speed
Oddie likes to celebrate success, but not this time.
The speed camera at the intersection of Wyndham and High Sts in Shepparton raked in $619,096, according to data released for October to December 2021.
That makes it the 16th most profitable camera based on the value of fines and comparable to $724,072 raked in by the Hume Fwy camera system.
Oddie tends to crawl through the intersection to avoid a speeding fine while trying not to go so slow that the red light camera lightens the wallet.
Pollie School is in session
New Federal Member for Nicholls Sam Birrell would have learned from school photos that ruckmen are at the back and rovers up front.
And so it was for the Pollie School photo to welcome all the new MPs to Federal Parliament for a few intense days learning the ropes.
