Mordialloc man Richard Bangoura has denied raping the 71-year-old woman who prosecutors say he targeted on her way home from playing the pokies.
The woman left Mordy HQ in the early hours of November 2, 2018 headed for her home just a few hundred metres away, jurors in Bangoura's Supreme Court trial were told on Tuesday.
Bangoura, then aged 35, had been drinking at the same venue and left 30 minute before the woman, prosecutor Carmela Pezzimenti said.
He allegedly came up behind the woman as she unlocked her front door and told her not to scream or he would stab her.
He held a 30cm-long blade to her throat and his hand over her mouth before forcing her inside and raping her twice in her bedroom, Ms Pezzimenti said.
Bangoura allegedly smoked a cigarette in her courtyard afterwards and told her "don't tell the cops or I'll cut you up".
He left, but Ms Pezzimenti said it wasn't he last she saw of Bangoura who returned and rang her doorbell at 10.30pm that night while she was alone inside watching TV.
"She heard the doorbell and was frozen in fear," Ms Pezzimenti said.
He returned the following night and the woman recognised him through the peephole in the door, the jury was told.
Bangoura allegedly asked a neighbour if his victim was home. The woman called triple zero twice in the following month when Bangoura again visited her home, the court heard.
Police, who had installed CCTV at the woman's home, arrested Bangoura a day after her second call to police.
He denied he was involved in any sexual offending and told them whoever it was "must be keen on her, she must have been special".
Bangoura's barrister Charles Morgan said he rejected the victim's account and denied all charges brought against him.
He asked the jury to assess the woman's "reliability and credibility" and whether her account was truthful.
The trial before Judge George Georgiou is continuing.
