Goulburn Valley Hockey Association action returned across the region at the weekend, with a number of intriguing results setting up an exciting finish to the home-and-away season.
SYC highlighted the A-grade men’s fixtures with a gritty 1-0 victory over Mooroopna at Sheppartion Regional Hockey Complex.
Bouncing back after a tough 8-1 loss to competition benchmark Strikers in round three, SYC excelled in defence and took its scoring opportunity to come away with the crucial victory.
The other A-grade clash saw Strikers claim a dominant 10-0 victory over Echuca Moama at Echuca College.
Claiming their fourth victory from four starts, Strikers were electric from start to finish, putting in a performance that would have sent shockwaves through its competitors.
B-grade men’s action saw Mooroopna claim a thrilling 4-3 victory over SYC, while Echuca Moama was far too good for Strikers, registering a 4-0 triumph.
In the B-grade women’s competition, Euroa bounced back from a crushing round-two defeat a fortnight ago to claim a thrilling 1-0 win over Benalla/SYC.
Mooroopna flexed its muscles in the other B-grade women’s clash with a comfortable 4-1 win over Strikers.
The sole under-17 clash of the weekend saw Strikers/SYC annihilate Mooroopna/Benalla 9-0.
The competition continues to heat-up in the under-14 division with all six sides enjoying a solid hit-out.
Mooroopna/Benalla and GVGS under-14 Gold highlighted the action with a thrilling 1-1 draw at Shepparton Regional Hockey Complex on Saturday afternoon.
The other two matches saw Strikers claim an 8-0 victory over Echuca Moama and SYC register a 7-1 win over GVGS under-14 Blue.
And in the under-12s, SYC was dominant in its efforts against Benalla, coming away with a 10-1 triumph.
Strikers claimed its second win of the season in the form of a 5-1 victory against Mooroopna.
