Waaia 9-165 (Sebastian Moore 65, Jesse Trower 31, Callan McCabe 3-41, Liam Callegari 2-25) lt Old Students 6-170 (Callan McCabe 91 not out, Liam Callegari 23 not out, Mitch Cleeland 3-29)
STAR PLAYER
Callan McCabe (Old Students): It is time this man is talked about as a genuine Lightfoot Medal contender. Another 91 runs and three wickets takes him to 344 and 20 for the season.
Another huge game from Callan McCabe helped Old Students continue its Haisman Shield finals push on Saturday.
Against Waaia, the star Student helped himself to three wickets before crushing 91 not out to steer his side to a four-wicket victory.
The Bombers batted first and immediately lost Sam Trower for a duck, skittled by McCabe, before Rory Knight suffered a similar fate, caught off McCabe's bowling to leave the score 2-5.
But Waaia steadied the ship, Sebastian Moore digging in and making 65 while finding minimal contributions from the other end.
It pushed on to 7-100, where Jesse Trower joined Moore in the middle and they added 58 before both fell quickly, Trower caught for 31 late in the innings.
In reply, the Students lost Harwinder Singh (eight), Matt Harris (21) and Jamie Carr (two) who were all bowled, with Connor Brown taking two of the wickets.
But first-drop McCabe remained in some sort of form, digging in with eight fours and a six to make 91 not out and steer his side across the line with four wickets still in the shed.
While McCabe batted quickly in making his 91 off 116, Luke McPhillamy went the patient approach with 15 off 59, before Liam Callegari smacked 23 off 16 to seal the deal.
Mitch Cleeland finished with 3-29, while Brown took 2-27 as Waaia remained 11th on the ladder.
The Students are now eighth on the ladder with a 3-4 record.
