Uniting church guest speaker to discuss Christian persecution

The Kyabram Uniting Church is inviting the community to attend a session to learn about Christian persecution on Wednesday, May 19.

Heading the discussion will be Voice of Martyrs Australia chief executive Tony Benjamin.

Event co-ordinator Neville Hunter said Mr Benjamin would inform the audience about what is happening across the world with regards to Christian persecution.

Mr Hunter said people should take the opportunity for a night of challenge and inspiration.

“According to Open Doors, a Christian aid organisation, one Christian in eight, or 340 million Christians worldwide, face and experience serious persecution and discrimination today.

“Christians in at least 50 countries suffer persecution, with North Korea ranked highest.

“In 2020, nine out of 10 Christians who were martyred for their faith were in Africa — 4761 died worldwide in 2020, according to Open Doors.

“Persecution can take the form of exclusion, rejection, loss of employment, taking of land, destroying homes and churches, beatings, torture, imprisonment and also death.”

Voice of the Martyrs supports Christians who are suffering persecution because of their faith.

For those interested in attending, the event starts at 7.30pm at the Kyabram Uniting Church Fellowship Rooms. It is free to attend.
