After being unable to host an event in 2018, club president Roy Lynn is eager to return to the glory of 2017 when the club hosted two successful fight nights.
Some boxers are expected to be travelling to Deniliquin from Shepparton and Wagga to participate, with the ring to be set up in the RSL Club’s Dunlop Room.
Lynn, who is also the head trainer of the club, said while the fight nights are still yet to scheduled he does expect the card will be filled with local boxers.
‘‘All are very fit and well prepared for the event,’’ he said.
‘‘It will be great entertainment and we’d love a big crowd of locals supporting our boxers.’’
Expected to compete throughout the year are Blake Charlton, Riley Foord and Lachlan Dunn.
Golden Rivers president Roy Lynn said he was proud of Charlton’s efforts saying he is one of the club’s great fighters.
‘‘Blake tries so hard and works very hard, he always fights the best,’’ he said.
‘‘In five fights it’s been two wins and three losses, each by a point.
‘‘Riley Foord also made his official debut last year so we’re expecting big things out of him.’’
In great news for the club, it will also have its own promoter after Travis Rochford earned his promoter’s license last year.
‘‘Travis works extremely hard for the club and we can’t thank him enough for what he does,’’ Lynn said.
‘‘For him to take on this role just shows the kind of hard-working person he is.
‘‘We are still looking for more referees and judges for our upcoming shows though.’’
Golden Rivers will again hold courses for those interested in becoming a qualified referee and/or judge.
The Golden Rivers Boxing Club was formed by Lynn in 1998, first at Wakool and then relocating to Deniliquin.
Local training is held in the Golden Rivers Boxing Club’s rooms located in Duncan St, adjacent the Deniliquin RSL Club.
Boxers meet from 6.30pm to 7.30pm each Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Lynn trains on Monday and Wednesday, Jamie East on Tuesday and Paul Johnstone on Thursday.
