The team at Rochester and Elmore District Health Service are in the market for a tri-shaw for the residents of their aged care facility, and their fundraising efforts got a major boost with the Twilight Markets on Friday night.
Leanne Walker is one of the Activities Volunteers at Rochester and Elmore District Health Services and spent the entirety of 2021 crafting to help fundraise for REDHS.
She lives locally on a farm and was inspired to join REDHS as a volunteer four years ago.
Ms Walker loves crafting and says she’s “very artistic”.
Becoming a volunteer with REDHS has given her social connection, as well as the opportunity to work with residents and give back.
During 2021 volunteers were unable to come on site, and she has spent hundreds, if not thousands of hours knitting and creating, making soft toys and scrunchies.
Many of these products were on sale at the market, alongside the ‘Spin For A Spin’ wheel game run by volunteers Thelma Walles, Pauline Wileman and Jenny Reid, all three of whom have been volunteering with REDHS since retiring.
The team raised $400 from the stall at the market, making a significant dent in the $15,000 cost of the tri-shaw.
