A partnership between Goulburn-Murray Water, Goulburn Valley Water, Data Parts, Advance Computing and the Greater Shepparton Lighthouse Project saw the laptops given out on Friday, December 10.
Grade 4 student Hudson Mathews and Grade 5 student Colt Cowan were excited to receive the laptops, immediately trying to install games on to the new hardware.
More than 100 second-hand laptops are being prepared for children in the community who need them.
“We hear of families of six kids sharing one laptop and women seeking to return to study work who cannot afford a laptop to get started,’’ Lighthouse Project executive officer Lisa McKenzie said.
“We are super thankful for the generosity of these local organisations in lending their support to a project that will be a game-changer for many families.”
G-MW and GV Water provided the laptops to Data Parts and Advance Computing and the IT companies wipe and re-image the computers.
The Greater Shepparton Lighthouse Project was created in 2014 in response to community concern about poor outcomes for young people.
The project aims to encourage the community to support young people in realising their full potential.
