The money will be used to purchase essential medical or supportive equipment for the hospital such as special mattresses, lifting equipment or ultrasound devices.
Cobram Hospital Ladies’ Auxiliary vice-president Val Linquist said the auxiliary would purchase equipment from the hospital’s “wish list” of needed and wanted equipment with the donation.
“Our priority is for the patient, either giving or for comfort,” she said.
Auxiliary president Mary Powell said they would regularly check up with staff on how the new equipment was going; most recently in regard to a new analysis unit.
“I said to the nurse, how’s that analysis unit going? Well, she looked at me and she was nearly in tears; she said, ‘you have no idea’,” Ms Powell said.
“We work very hard to earn the money, but this will be a very good start for the next year’s projects and what we take on.”
Ms Powell said the auxiliary had been operating for 72 years and had raised more than $800,000 to support local health services during that time.
Willow Cobram Resort sales and marketing director Nicholas Martin said he thought the auxiliary’s work was fantastic and was looking forward to supporting it in the future.
“If there’s anything we can help out with, if they’re short on anything, I think it’s fabulous what they do,” he said.
“I’m feeling a lot more positive now, even if it’s been tough in the last 18 months.”
