The Greater Shepparton Heritage Interpretive Signage Funding Program will fund heritage signs to promote places of local significance including buildings, structures and events to increase public awareness and understanding of these places.
Community groups and organisations are eligible to apply for funding to establish an interpretive sign for places of local heritage significance.
Funding is for 50 per cent of the total cost of works, with up to $5000 available on a dollar for dollar basis.
City of Greater Shepparton Mayor Kim O’Keeffe said the program was an excellent way to celebrate the municipality’s historical and cultural places of significance.
“This program aims to provide these places with the recognition they deserve and increase the public’s awareness of our shared heritage,” she said.
“I encourage any eligible community groups or organisations to apply for their share of funding.”
For a proposal to be eligible for funding, the proposed signage must relate to a place or object within the City of Greater Shepparton and be within the heritage overlay of the Greater Shepparton Planning Scheme or listed as a place of significance in the Victorian Heritage Register.
