Sporting a new-look team last year, the Magpies’ chemistry grew as the season progressed, which is something that excites second year mentor Ellie Warnock as the club managed to retain the entirety of its A-grade squad.
“Everything is going really well, we had a lot of numbers at trials which was good, and we basically have our core group from last year returning which is really exciting,” Warnock said.
“I am pretty confident (we can rise up the ladder), I feel like we were really finding our feet last year being a new team and never playing with each other before, and now we are comfortable, we can continue to build on that groundwork from last year.”
Having built a strong connection last season, she said the coaching staff was able to broaden its focus in the off-season into building a more solid game plan.
“It was just a lot of game plays on the day, last year was just about finding our feet and getting comfortable as a team, so now we can work on strategies on the court and particular plays,” she said.
As for what the Magpies will look like in 2022, Warnock expects the fans to quickly pick up a distinct style as she hopes to push for finals action.
“A lot of one-on-one game style from us and just lots of communication and chit-chat on the court, I think people will find us to be a very loud team,” she said.
“Hopefully we can just build on what we achieved last year, towards the end of the season especially we really started to improve, so hopefully with a bit more continuity and structure to our game plan we can keep on getting better.”
