Bennett was one of four people who on Tuesday spoke highly of Sailor, including an ex-girlfriend who said she believed he was not capable of what he had been accused.
It is alleged Sailor had sex with a 24-year-old woman while she was either unconscious or too drunk to consent after a night out with friends in Sydney in October 2020.
He has pleaded not guilty to two rape charges and maintains the sex was consensual.
However the Crown says the woman remembers taking two sips of her drink and nothing else before waking the next morning, naked and bleeding in urine-soiled sheets.
Bennett told the District Court he had known Sailor since he was born, having coached his father Wendell at the Brisbane Broncos and the St George Illawarra Dragons.
Though he hadn't seen Tristan Sailor much in the past decade, Bennett told the court he asked about him often because of his relationship with his parents.
"I got constant feedback that he's a really decent young man … always respectful … certainly not into alcohol or drugs," Bennett said.
"No one had a criticism of him."
Similarly, Sailor's former coach at the Dragons, Paul McGregor, told the court Sailor was a "gentleman" whose integrity remained unchallenged, while Sailor's agent David Riolo said he "couldn't speak more highly of him".
One of Sailor's former girlfriends also told the court the 23-year-old had always been respectful to her during their relationship, which ended in January 2019.
Sailor had never been violent towards her or pressured her into doing anything she didn't want to, she said.
"I don't think he's capable of doing what he has been accused of."
But in summing up his case on Tuesday, prosecutor Jeff Tunks said the jury should find the Crown had proved beyond reasonable doubt the alleged victim was substantially intoxicated and could not consent.
He recapped evidence that the alleged victim had consumed about 11 standard drinks over the evening, sipping little water and eating three tacos.
Mr Tunks pointed out the woman could be seen stumbling in CCTV footage played to the trial, and she herself told the trial she had been drunk and not acting like herself.
"I was starting to feel like I was not entirely sure of what was going on," Mr Tunks said, quoting her evidence.
Similarly, a friend who was with the alleged victim throughout the night said she thought her friend was so drunk she would be refused entry to the bar where they met up with Sailor and his teammates.
The same friend says she later that night found the woman lying naked on the floor after Sailor left the alleged victim's apartment, before putting her to bed and cleaning up her vomit.
Sailor told the trial he didn't notice the alleged victim acting intoxicated during the night.
She was conscious and engaged while they were having sex, and just had a bubbly personality, he said.
"If you do choose to critically analyse the evidence of the accused, you might think it is fundamentally at odds with the other evidence in this trial," Mr Tunks argued.
He said the alleged victim had told a consistent story from the moment she woke up the next morning, confused, distraught and shocked.
She spoke to several friends and her parents over the course of the day, telling them she had blacked out and thought she had been raped.
She was candid, and did not didn't exaggerate or push an agenda, he said.
Sailor's barrister will sum up his case for the jury on Wednesday.
