A trio of Smiths are set to transform Katandra into finals contenders this year.
Luke, Alex and Jack Smith are all pulling on a Kats shirt this season, with Luke swapping the hoops of Geelong VFL for Katandra.
Coach Trent Herbert said his side would have more of a defensive mindset this year, after proving last year it could score quickly on the attack.
“If we can work on our defensive style, it will take us a long way to winning more games of footy,” Herbert said.
“It’s going to be an unpredictable season, especially with COVID still hanging around, so hopefully we can still get a full season of footy.
“One week we might have a full side and then the next week have a couple out with COVID, so if we can just keep positive, build with what we’ve got and have the belief in each other that’s probably the biggest thing that I’ll be pushing throughout the whole year.”
Herbert has added some experience to his side, with Luke Smith joining the club after a spell with Geelong’s VFL side.
“Luke Smith will have a big year, he’s probably the best footy player out in this region to be honest, with just how he goes about things,” he said.
The Kats just might be the dark horse this year and it would not be a surprise to see them taking it up to the likes of Strathmerton come September.
