Another season of Victorian Premier Cricket is upon us.
Following the washout in round one, the Goulburn Murray region’s cricket exports finally got to kit up last weekend for the second round of play.
The Premier men’s firsts match at Merv Hughes Oval saw three former Cricket Shepparton talents go head-to-head.
Katandra export Daniel Sartori had the last laugh over Karramomus’s Josh McDonald and Central Park-St Brendan’s Josh Larkin.
Sartori’s Footscray teammates walked away with a five-wicket victory.
McDonald, who made his 150th Premier firsts appearance, finished the day for Geelong with three catches behind the stumps and 11 runs.
Larkin was impressive with the willow in hand and crafted a vital 66-run knock as Geelong reached 225 in the 50th over.
Despite Sartori (14 runs) missing out with the bat, Footscray chased the target down with nine balls to spare.
Elsewhere, Moama’s Todd Murphy had Kingston-Hawthorn batters in a mess last Saturday.
Murphy collected 4-29 as he spearheaded St Kilda to a 53-run win.
Meanwhile, Prahran got its premiership defence off to a horrible start.
Old Students and Karramomus product James Billington struggled with four runs in the Blues’ 43-run defeat to Casey-South Melbourne.
Former Tatura captain Michael Archer and CPSTB product Connor Hayes could not guide Greenvale over the line against Melbourne.
Archer collected 1-45 as the Kangaroos went down by 42 runs.
In women’s Premier action, Seymour’s Maddi Albers spearheaded Carlton’s attack in its dominant win over Essendon-Maribyrnong Park.
Albers was on fire with the new ball in hand and collected 2-27.
Essendon-Maribyrnong Park could muster only 143 runs in response to Carlton’s brilliant 5-289.
And in the women’s seconds, CPSTB’s Gemma Boyd and Echuca’s Grace Moyle tried their hardest in Carlton’s loss to Box Hill.
Boyd chimed in with 1-24, a direct run-out and an unbeaten 11 with the bat.
Moyle managed to register 18 runs with the blade.
Former Tiger Brayden Tracey crafted a stunning 57-run knock for Carlton in its four-wicket loss to Essendon in men’s Premier thirds action.
