So running multiple marathons in short succession is a gargantuan effort requiring the highest level of discipline, preparation and mental strength.
And when you consider a group of about 20 individuals are soon to tackle seven marathons in seven days across seven states, it really is an incredible feat.
One of them is Dani McLaren, of Tatura, who will embark on that mammoth task in the first week of July.
It is part of an initiative called the 777 Marathon, started by Bravehearts in 2013 as a way to raise funds to protect Australian children.
Bravehearts is an organisation that aims to empower and protect children to prevent them from becoming victims of sexual assault.
Dani’s efforts are all the more impressive given she is a full-time teacher and a single mum.
And it is the fifth consecutive year that she’s tackled the seven marathons.
Included in her commitment to the 777 Marathon, she is required to organise events in her area and raise $10000 for Bravehearts over a 12-month period.
So far, she has raised more than $50000 for the cause. This is a significant amount of money, but equally important is the awareness that those like Dani raise by getting involved with such an initiative.
And it is no doubt a very worthwhile cause.
Putting others first and embarking on such a physically gruelling task is incredibly selfless and admirable.
It is a great example of the many people in our region who take it upon themselves to make the community a better place.
We applaud those involved and wish them well as they continue to prepare for tackling their series of gruelling marathons.
