Real Estate Institute Director of SA board director Victor Velgush said many people were devasted by the unfolding crisis and felt powerless to help.
But Mr Velgush, who was born in the Ukrainian city of Dnipropetrovsk and migrated to Australia with his family as a young boy, said people could donate to a fund set up to support those in need.
The Ukraine Crisis Appeal is a collaboration between the Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organisations, the Rotary Australia World Community Service and Caritas Ukraine.
"It is the largest Australian tax-deductible fundraising effort for a country in crisis with thousands of people injured, displaced and in need of urgent supplies," Mr Velgush said.
"I am reaching out to the SA business community to seek their help in making donations to support this life-saving work."
Association of Ukrainians in SA President Frank Fursenko welcomed the call for help as he recognised the Australian Ukrainian community traced its foundations to the arrival of refugees from Europe after World War II.
"Now our country is again facing the devastation of war and South Australians from all walks of life can help us now by donating directly to the crisis appeal," he said.
